Cowboy Action Shooting

Cowboy Action Shooting is a multi-faceted shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms

typical of those used in the taming of the Old West: single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles, and old time shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, "Old West" style. It is a timed sport in which shooters compete for prestige on a course of different shooting stages.

Miami Rifle & Pistol Club is SASS-affiliated.

One of the unique aspects Cowboy Action Shooting is the requirement placed on costuming. Each participant is required to adopt a shooting alias appropriate to a character or profession of the late 19th century, a Hollywood western star, or an appropriate character from fiction. Their costume is then developed accordingly. Many event participants gain more enjoyment from the costuming aspect of our sport than from the shooting competition, itself

MR&PC offers five stages. Each scenario, as they are called, features an array of situations, many based on famous incidents or movies scenes, in which the shooters must test their mettle against steel targets.

Everyone is required to select a shooting alias representative of a character or profession from the Old West or the western film genre.

Wildbunch

Wild Bunch Action Shooting shares similarities to SASS Cowboy Action Shooting. However, there are some notable differences. The sport uses 1911 Pistols in .45 acp, Lever Action Rifles chambered for pistol caliber of .40 and above, and model 1897 12ga. Pump Shotguns.
Sanctioned matches are designed specifically to provide stage scenarios which incorporate down range as well as lateral movement, more pistol and shotgun rounds fired per stage and a variety of reactive targets such as plate racks, dueling trees, moving targets and rifle/pistol knowckdown targets as well. - SASS Wild Bunch website: http://www.sassnet.com/wildbunch/

The competition is loosely based on the 1969 “Wild Bunch” movie directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring William Holden, Ernest Borgnine and Robert Ryan as aging outlaws planning one last big score (a bank robbery) while the traditional American West disappears around them.
